April 5, 2025, the night of Prom, is quickly approaching. In addition to finding the perfect dress ora new suit, and taking Instagram worthy photos, it’s also about finding the right place to eat before the dance. Lincoln offers a variety of different restaurants. Whether you are looking for an upscale elegant dining experience or a quick and laid-back bite to eat, there are plenty of restaurants to look for.
“Some things that are important for a restaurant to have for prom is the ability to talk across the table without being too loud and the environment being mellow,” junior Lily Nielsen said. “I’d also say there needs to be a good mood and vibe, with lowlights and a good atmosphere. Also, I think the food must be high quality so that you can get the full prom experience.”
Many things go into choosing a restaurant. Here’s a look at three very different restaurants that are perfect for preparing for this big night.
The first restaurant on the list is DISH. Located in Downtown Lincoln, it offers the most fine dining experience out of the three but also comes at a high price point. This place ranges from $50-$100 per person, but features dishes creatively curated and made with the highest quality of ingredients. Their menu features progressive American cuisine and has a rotating menu that is frequently changing. One of their staple menu items is the Parker House Rolls with hot honey butter and right now the menu also features various types of meat including grilled striploin, miso glazed salmon, and braised beef cheek. DISH should be at the top of everyone’s list if looking to go all out and spend the big bucks.
The second restaurant is Hiro 88. This restaurant has a reasonable price range, tasty food, and an upscale environment, with various locations throughout Nebraska and two different locations in Lincoln (Downtown Lincoln and the other in South Lincoln). Hiro 88 specializes in sushi, but its menu also features other types of Asian cuisine including many types of seafood, beef, and chicken. The price for Hiro 88 ranges anywhere from $20-$30 per person, and fits the budget while giving a fancy environment. Hiro 88 is the place to make reservations when on a budget but looking for a more elevated experience.
Lastly, YIA YIA’s is a local pizza restaurant that has a fun and unique experience that will make prom unforgettable. YIA YIA’S also has two locations in Lincoln, Downtown Lincoln and the other in South Lincoln. It is very “lowkey” and casual, but the downtown location features a pool table and other fun games that make this experience fun and interactive. This restaurant is on the cheaper side, ranging from $10-$20 per person. This price point doesn’t mean the pizza isn’t amazing, including some of their most popular slices: The Local, The Southerner, and The Pacific. This restaurant is great for someone on a budget wanting a good dining experience without breaking the bank.
“For me, finding a restaurant that everyone likes is important,” junior Stella Stempson said. “The menu is a deal breaker if they don’t have lots of variety, and there is at least one thing for everyone.”
All of these restaurants feature something unique about them whether that’s the cuisine or the environment, allowing everyone to find something they enjoy. One thing these restaurants have in common is their location: Downtown Lincoln. As Lincoln East prom takes place downtown it’s important to have options that are quick and easy to get to the location of the prom, the Scottish Rite Ballroom.
No matter the budget or personal taste, these restaurants offer the perfect way to kick off an unforgettable prom night in Lincoln.
