It was twenty two minutes from halftime. Both teams were playing with deep compassion, each trying their hardest to make the first goal of the game. The ball was being kicked back and forth, until SWISH! The ball zoomed past the goalie and straight into the net. The girls erupted into cheer, hugging and clapping as their teammate made the first goal of the entire season. The goal was made by Piper Purvis, a freshman and outside winger for the Lincoln East Girls varsity soccer team. This first goal was just the spark that set the whole game off to be a sweep for East, ending with a 5-0 score.

On March 20, 2025, the Lincoln East Girls Varsity soccer team went to Seacrest field to play the first game of the season against Norfolk High School. The team had been practicing since March 3, where tryouts had commenced for all of the spring sports teams.
The game started out with high hopes, as the Spartans circled together and cheered. The starting lineup was announced and then the game began. Soccer is played in 45-minute increments. The first half is 45 minutes, followed by a ten minute halftime and the second 45 minute half.

Kate Eggett, a junior and forward for the girls team highly regarded the first game and the early season for the team, as they are now 4-0 as of April 1. Each player on the team has a very good relationship with one another, which amps up team spirit and gameplay for the team.
“I think that the season has been going really well,” Eggett said. “We have really good chemistry on the team, which has really helped us this season as we are all very close.”
This year, the team has been trying something different with their formations that are being used during games. Last year, the team utilized the formation of 3-5-2 on the field. As of this season, they have now switched to a 3-4-3, which can be very different for the players.
With the success the girls have been having this season, morale is bound to be high across the team. Their current undefeated status not only causes nerves, but excitement for everyone as well.
“It’s really awesome that everyone is coming together and we’re really good,” junior and central midfielder Scout Waite said. “We weren’t expecting to be super good this year. We have a smaller squad so everyone just has to play a lot, everyone plays a lot of minutes and that’s definitely a challenge as well.”
This early season has proved to be not only a challenge, but a success for the girls so far. On April 3, they take on the rival soccer team of Lincoln Southwest, a team that Lincoln East has rivaled for years.
