Want to see some of the best arts in the state? You are speaking my language! The Language Fair is an opportunity for high school students around the state to showcase language skills including poetry, art, music, and film. It takes place annually at UNL and is a great learning and self-expression experience. 26 Lincoln East students attended the Language Fair this year, winning various trophies and positively representing language students and teachers at Lincoln East.
Students submit their work and attend the fair for rewards and activities. There are many opportunities to meet people with different perspectives and view art and writing from various schools. They can submit short films, music, poetry, posters, and have creative freedom.
Many students achieved excellence at this fair, but there were some Spartan standouts. First place winner in French creative poetry level one, Tallulah Luettger, represented East as a freshman and made a great impression with her writing. Samy Wessel won best poster overall in French, and many others placed first and second spots with amazing work.
“I loved meeting all of the new people, and the judges were very nice and welcoming,” Luettger said.
Cara Heminger is a widely beloved world language teacher at East and provides a welcoming learning environment. Heminger attended the fair with many students from East and guided them with their work, ensuring a positive experience.
“I was so proud of all of the East students who put themselves out there and completely rocked the language fair,” Heminger said.
The Language Fair is a very positive and creative experience and amazing to work on language skills. Students embraced their Spartan spirit, achieving excellence, meeting expectations, and making the study body proud!
