Lincoln City road closures have become a huge problem for drivers during the fall months of 2025. Roads are shut down to one lane, turning lanes are completely blocked, and driving has become a complete disaster.
Full closures stretch as west as Capitol Beach and as east as 98th Street by Firethorn Golf Club. Lane closures are spread throughout Lincoln city as well— Normal Blvd easily being the longest and most congested street from 38th to 56th. After 56th, it’s fully shut down until 70th.
On July 25, 2025, Rod Fowler from KLKN TV, Lincoln Channel 8, announced more closures.
“The city announced more lane closures along Normal Blvd. Lanes in both directions are going to be closed between 33rd and 48th for road work starting Monday,” Fowler said. “This is part of the Lincoln on the move street improvement project.”
Roadwork has been ongoing for nearly two months on Normal Blvd, and by the looks of it, it’s going to continue into late October.
“LTU says work should be done by mid-August,” Fowler said.
The ideal road construction months are between May and November due to the warm weather and dryness.
This ongoing construction began on June 4, 2025, due to a pipe replacement on N St. As of September 19, 2025, 56th St continues to have a lane closure between Van Dorn St and Pioneers Blvd. The city is expecting to complete the resurfacing and electrical work on 56th by winter.
“It can be very scary because there’s always lane closures, so people are always merging very fast,” Caitlin Buckwalter, a junior at Lincoln East High School, said. “It’s been really hard to get around and kind of stressful.”
Lincoln City road closures have created a lot of stress and complications lately, but hopefully, the late winter and early spring of the new year will be a breeze for drivers. That is, until the next major project!
