On September 15, 2025, Apple Inc. released a new iPhone update for those with an iPhone 11 or newer. Over the course of the past weeks there have been many reviews and opinions about whether or not it’s an effective download. There are many new additions of this update that others are not a fan of. How bad could this update really be?
Apple Inc. comes out with updates every so often, whether that being new technologies, apps, or changes to an original product. These updates are meant to be beneficial for the users and to help stay on top of security. However, Apple Inc. iOS updates help the company just as much as the user by updating a phone to make it more appealing. Effecting the increase rate of the newer phones or updates.
“The new design makes apps and system experiences more expressive and delightful, while keeping iOS instantly familiar,” states an Apple Inc. iOS 26 update press release.
This update has changed different variables. A lot fall under a customizable category, such as adding photos to message backgrounds, creating polls for messages, and Genmojies, which are Artificial Intelligent(A.I.) emojis from Apple that you can create.
Other updates include the change up of the keyboard, “liquid glass” apps and lock screens, and even a call screening, so when you get a call from an unknown number, you can know what the message is before you call back. Which overall can be very useful.
Many perspectives have been shared about the iOS 26 update. Varying from student to student, and adult to adult. However, it seems to have a bigger effect on more students compared to adults.
Ever Grooms, a sophomore at Lincoln East High School, had many thoughts that others around agree with. A lot are negative, and she wonders a lot about how these Apple Inc. iOS updates are beneficial for our phones and other technologies.
“Everything is customizable, but do you really need to customize your phone that badly?” Grooms said.
Grooms is also disappointed about the quick battery drainage seen with her phone.
“I have no more battery on my phone, “ Grooms said. “It dies every day after school.”
Though the update has many changes that can be helpful, there are updates that negatively affect the phones. These updates are initially made to enhance the performance of your phone.
“Experiences are more expressive and personal, from the Lock Screen and Home Screen, to new capabilities across phones and messages that help users focus on the connections that matter most,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said. “And with powerful new Apple Intelligence capabilities integrated across the system, users can get things done easier than ever.”
