Bird Club takes flight at Lincoln East high school

Lincoln East’s Bird Club is a space for anyone. Led by senior Jihye Seo and attended by many East students, Bird Club showcases different species and the importance of having birds in our ecosystem. Activities vary from watching documentaries, researching birds, and having bird of the month competitions.

“My favorite thing about Bird Club is learning about one of my favorite animals,” Chandlar Kowalke said. “Everyone in the club is really nice and the activities are fun.”

Bird Club takes place Thursdays in room 148-149 after school, and all students are welcome. It makes a great community for those passionate about birds and nature to discuss their interests with full freedom. They do many events and activities as a group together to encourage insightful conversations about birds.

“I like getting to share with others the different birds I see on the internet that I find cute and interesting,” Mark Pirvu said. “I really enjoy having bird of the month competitions and fighting for the birds I love, for example, the Pukeko.”

It’s important to have a club for everyone at Lincoln East High School, so people with all kinds of interests have a community. Bird Club provides knowledge and passion about birds for anyone that is interested through all kinds of engaging events. Overall, Bird Club is a very positive environment available to all and worth it to stop by after school.

Sweet Pea Ratliff is a junior at East High School. This is her second year on The Oracle staff, and she looks forward to helping the first-year staff writers as an editor. Outside of The Oracle, Ratliff enjoys painting and drawing as a creative outlet. She goes through high school and other parts of life by trying to be true to herself. “I just try to be myself and surround myself with things that I like without worrying about judgement from other people,” Ratliff said. At home, she is one of five kids in her family, and also helps take care of her various pets. Ratliff’s perfect day is simple: going to the mall, getting her nails done, and spending time with those she loves.
