On January 15, 2024, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that they will no longer permit the use of food coloring Red 3 in foods or any ingested products without prior FDA approval. Red 3, the food dye that is currently under scrutiny, has been proven to cause cancer in animals. In addition, Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 also have been found to contain carcinogens (cancer causing ingredients). The dyes Blue 1, Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 have been found to cause hypersensitivity reactions. The food products in the above image include food dye and have the possibility to cause negative health reactions in humans.
