Review Of Epic Proportions

Review+Of+Epic+Proportions

Epic Proportions, a play about two brothers fighting over one girl all while being on a dysfunctional movie set, was presented by East High’s theatre community over the past weekend.  The play centers around the love triangle between Louise Goldman (Jenna Tuckerman), Benny Bennet (Peter Holmberg) and Phil Bennet (Jacob Schoening).

From the very start of the play Tuckerman captures the audience immediately drawing in laughter filling the auditorium.  The laughter sparked from a single moment of her in a spotlight breaking the fourth wall, lingers on throughout the play.

It could be clearly seen the banter that was present of the trio (Tuckerman, Holmberg, and Schoening), as well as the overall mesh of the cast itself.  Each actor worked off of each other, sending their energy off into the audience.

The technical elements which in some productions can distract the audience only richly added to the epic play.  With four light designers the play had a sense of time which seamlessly transitioned from early mornings to late nights.  The design element to create such a sense of passing time, obviously took lots of time and thought.  A sense of time in a play, enhances the idea of being immersed in a new world.  Sound effects took a mixture of humorous riot chants and the pre recorded voice of technical director Patric Vendetti.  The sounds added to the humor that the cast was already creating on the stage.

Overall Epic Proportions is a play that marks the end of the year, sending off our seniors in the most epically proportioned way.
