The Lincoln East Spirit Squad, as well as many other cheer and dance teams across the state spent their Saturday competing in the Class A and B Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championship in Grand Island on February 17th.

Both the East State Cheer Team and the Apollonaires placed high in all of their categories. In last year’s state competition, the Spartans received fourth place in their Non-Tumbling routine and runner-up in the Sideline category. This year, Cheer, competing in both the Sideline category and Non-Tumbling, placed runner-up in both categories, which is the first time that East has taken the runner-up title in the Non-Tumbling category. In addition to these achievements, the squad received the Class A Spirit Award, which is determined by the other competing teams, who vote on who is the most spirited and encouraging squad.

The Apollinaires took home two trophies from their accomplishments in both Pom and Jazz categories. The team placed second in Pom, out of twelve teams, and third in Jazz out of thirteen competing teams in the Class A division.

Overall, the Lincoln East Spirit Squad represented East High phonemaly at the state competition, and brought home multiple trophies to add to East’s collection. The teams are looking forward to what next year’s state competition brings.
