This month, Spartan students are raising money for an amazing cause called Pennies for Patients. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is taking donations from February 6 through the 24 during fourth period to benefit children with these diseases. All of the money donated will go to research to help fight an end to Leukemia and Lymphoma cancers.
“LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.” according to the LLS(Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) website.
Besides East’s fundraiser anyone can donate anytime on their website: https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate. Or there are various ways you can help the foundation like volunteering, buying clothing and accessories, and giving planned gifts to a specific patient to brighten their day. As for students that go to East and donate during their fourth period, there will be a prize for the class that donated the most pennies; a pizza party.
Just in 2016 the LLS foundation was able to:
- invest $49.3 million in research
- support 268 research projects (and 22 Therapy Acceleration Program partnerships) in the United States, Canada and 7 other countries
- provide co-pay assistance to patients
- sponsor scientific conferences around the country
- produce educational materials and videos
- run dozens of Family Support Groups nationwide
Just think of all much more they could do with our contributions! Let’s not only help the LLS Foundation but help spread awareness and knowledge of all types of cancers.
