A group of East students gather around the Pacman tower to watch a game on March 2, 2018, in the commons.

Retro gaming made a brief comeback in East’s own commons, during all three lunches from February 23rd to March 3rd. Courtesy of East’s student council, the Spartan Arcade provided for a playful, competitive environment for any students interested. Students were paid a quarter to play games, choosing from either Pacman or Asteroids. Chromebooks with games loaded on them were placed in the small, painted towers, and students competed against not only the high scores of others, but their own as well. Students could play as many times as they wanted to supply quarters for.

The event was set up as a way of raising money for a particular charity, still to be decided by student council. The event was described by student council member Naree Philavanh as “a way to raise money through fun.”

“Turnout has been pretty good throughout the games, people have gotten competitive” said student council member Evan Heller. Students were very engaged throughout the duration of the arcade, with students continuously returning to compete.
