After a rough first week offensively for the Spartans, they found their footing in week 2 against the Northeast Rockets. Senior quarterback Devin Beckner led the Spartans on the way to a 28-7 victory on Friday afternoon. Head coach John Gingery exclaimed, “we wanted to eliminate our mistakes, the biggest thing is that we can’t put ourselves in a position where we’re at 1st and 15, we needed to take care of business and move the sticks, and fortunately we were able to do that.” Gingery also stated that penalties were an priority point in practices this week saying, “without a doubt penalties were an emphasis, we cannot dig ourselves a hole that we, can’t get out of, so we really worked hard on that this week in practice.” The Spartan defense continued their trend of resiliance and intesity, only allowing 7 points all game to Northeast. “We feel like we’re pretty good on defense, we had leadership with the Sellons making big plays, and the biggest thing is just keeping these kids healthy,” said Gingery. The Spartans now look forward to facing city rival Southwest. “We gotta block upfront and downfield, also look for oppurtunities on special teams,” said Gingery. “We’re close and looking to break a few plays for bigger yards.” East takes on the Hawks on Friday, September 7 at 4:30 at Seacrest Field.
