Senior quarterback Devin Beckner throws a pass in game versus Lincoln Southwest on Friday, September 7th. Southwest won the game 17-14.

Lincoln East and Lincoln Southeast will play Friday night in the battle of east Lincoln.  Last year, the Knights of Southeast topped the East Spartans 26-6. Since 2010, the Spartans have a 4-5 record versus the Knights.  “It’s just like Southwest, whenever you play ‘em, it’s always a big game,” said senior defensive end Chris Karmazin. “So there’s gonna be a lot of emotions and both teams are just gonna be playing their absolute hardest.”  Both East and Southeast come into this week 1-2. East comes off of a 17-14 loss against Lincoln Southwest and Southeast comes off of a 29-14 loss versus Omaha Westside.

The scout team for East is making sure the team knows what to look for in Southeast.  “It’s gonna be a lot of just smash-mouth football right up the middle,” said Karmazin.  “It’s gonna be really physical and both teams are gonna get at it.” Last week was certainly a tough loss for East, playing a good game and leading over Southwest until a pick-6 in the final minutes propelled Southwest to a 17-14 lead, which turned out to be the final score.  The Spartans aim to build on the positives from last week. Karmazin says East is looking forward to “making sure we keep containment and a lot of pressure on the line, that way we don’t give their quarterback any time to think.” He added that East anticipates that Southeast will be passing quite frequently, and that the Spartan defense is working to contain the pass as well.  The Spartans will face the Knights at 8pm on Friday at Seacrest Field.
