Chang Deng goes in for a layup in game versus Lincoln High on Saturday, January 19th at Lincoln East High School. East won the game 81-68.

The Spartans scored a season-high 81 points on Saturday.  After a postponement due to weather on Friday, East was ready to go versus Lincoln High.  Nine players on East’s roster scored at least one point, and five scored double digits. “When guys get in foul trouble, it presents opportunities for other guys to go in there and make plays,” said head coach Jeff Campbell.  The Spartans’ biggest concern was to make sure they crashed the boards more effectively than they have as of late. While the rebound battle was fairly even, the Spartans out-rebounded the Links 25-23. Switching between a couple of different zones and man-to-man defense was one of a few things the Spartans approached differently.  “We kind of did a few things different on offense where we were trying to spread Lincoln High out. Let our guards go attack the rim and our guards were executing,” said Campbell. “Chang and Teny both came out huge for us tonight. They did a really good job.” Wes Dreamer led the Spartans in scoring with 21 points and Keyshawn Jenkins led the Links with 19.  The Spartans climb to 10-3 while the Links move to 9-6.

The postponement of Friday’s game versus Lincoln North Star was originally rescheduled for Tuesday, January 22nd, but mother nature had other ideas with snow-filled and icy roads.  The Spartans contest against the Navigators has been rescheduled a second time, on Tuesday, January 29th. The Spartans’ next home contest will take place at Lincoln East High School against Millard South on Saturday, January 26th at 5 pm.
