Lincoln East junior Grant Lyman vs. Lincoln High senior and Husker wrestling commit Isaiah Alford. Although Alford is ranked 1st in the state right now, Lyman (also ranked) put up quite a fight, nearly disturbing Alford’s perfect win streak.

Once again, the boys Spartan wrestling team comes out on top in their most recent triangular against the Lincoln Northeast Rockets and the Lincoln High Links. The spectators, family, and friends all rushed to the stands on Wednesday night, creating an atmosphere of competitive angst, and excitement as the triangular began. This night was full of many impressive duals and resulted in much success for the Spartans as they took a 62-12 win against the Rockets and a 61-17 win against the Links. Each individual Spartan wrestler put up an amazing fight, as many of their peers cheered them on from the sidelines. None of the other teams’ fans could quite top the enthusiasm and energy that each of the Spartan spectators had, as they did not let one competitor go un-cheered for. On top of this being an amazing night of competition, all 13 senior members of the team along with their parents were acknowledged for their contributions and hard work throughout their High School wrestling experience. Junior Noland Mcglothlin appreciates the seniors, and how they have been able to lead the team throughout the season. “Being on the Lincoln East wrestling team, leadership is one of the things that allows us to be so successful,” said Mcglothin. “I also know that whenever the time comes and they take their last steps on the mat, that the juniors and I will step right up and be able to continue their legacy.” The appreciation and pride runs deep within the Spartan wrestling team as they continue on in their season. Along with the many other highly ranked wrestlers on the team, junior Max Mayfield, who has a 38-1 record and is a previous state champ, earned his 34th pin of the season in 56 seconds, ultimately tying with the Spartan school record and finishing the night on a high note.
