Last night at the Bay Skate Park, Lincoln East’s Slam poetry competed in their first bout. A bout is five rounds. Lincoln East competed against Ogallala High School and Lincoln Northeast. The competition started with solo performers and then doubles until the fifth round where each team did a group piece. And as the night progressed, stories and words beautifully told in poems touched the audience. At the end of the night, scores were calculated and judges discussed to later release the results. Northeast in third place, Ogallala High in second place, and East High first place! It was a wonderful start to the slam poetry season and a fantastic night of poetry. The next one is on April 2nd, at 5:30 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. If we progress past the Omaha bout, the Spartans will go onto semifinals on April 15th or 16th (the dates are still being determined) and hopefully finals on the 25th of April. Congratulations to the East High Slam Poetry team!
