Modern Music Masters, more commonly known as Tri-M, is a group of East High musicians that meets every Thursday in the East High strings room. Tri-M is an opportunity for music students to give back to their school and society.

“It’s really fun to be apart of, and the officers do a really good job coming up with activities. It’s generally a fun group of people and because it’s music related everyone has something in common.” Ms. Shively is an Assistant Band Director at East and is the head of East High’s Tri-M chapter. She was a member of Tri-M in high school and was treasurer during her senior year.    It is also a chance to connect with other musicians and gain leadership skills and opportunities.

Patrick Brown, a junior, has been apart of Tri-M for three years. He says one of his favorite memories is from last year, when Tri-M put on the first LPS music festival, and all of the proceeds from the event went to the Yankee Hill music program. He was a performer in the festival and he said it was a really cool and fun experience. “I really love music and it’s a great chance to get together and meet other people who love music too.”

It is also a chance to connect with other musicians and gain leadership skills and opportunities. To be a part of Tri-M you have to be enrolled in a music class for the school year, and because it’s an honor community you have to have an A average in that music class and a B average overall. To become an official member you have to attend twelve events over the school year. “I really love music and it’s a great chance to get together and meet other people who love music too.”
