Week 7 Oracle Power Rankings: Girls & Boys Class A Basketball

Boys Class A Rankings:

1. Lincoln Pius X (11-0, *1) – The Thunderbolts continue their winning ways after two close wins against other Lincoln teams, nearly dropping one to Lincoln Northeast after only leading by one after the 3rd quarter, and ultimately pulling away to win by 15. Pius looks to a more difficult week with a top 10 matchup in #5 Bellevue West. The last remaining unbeaten in class A will look to hold onto that title as long as possible, now entering the second half of the season.

2. Millard North (10-1, *2) -The star studded Mustangs had a close call this weekend to a below .500 team in a 3 point OT win over Gretna. If the early season loss to Omaha North wasn’t enough of a wake up call to one of the most decorated teams in state history, maybe this will be what awakes the sleeping giant.
This week: @ #9 Papillion-La Vista, @ #6 Creighton Prep
3. Omaha Central (8-1,*4) – The Eagles haven’t faced a team yet this New Year after an out of state matchup was cancelled due to poor weather. Central was slated to face a top ten Class 4A Sioux City East team in Iowa. LJ Wrightsell a possible all state guard looks to ring in 2020 moving past the only loss to #9 Papillion-La Vista.
This week: Vs Lincoln East, Vs Millard South
4. Omaha South (8-2, *5) – A lighter past week for the Packers with two blowout wins, against Gretna by 22, and Bryan by 41. Two road games await Omaha South this week to continue the second half of the year. The Packers continue to implement heavy team play, and are in a great position to compete with the best in the state.

5. Bellevue West (7-2, *8) – The return of 4 star point guard Chucky Hepburn helped carry the Thunderbirds to a quality win over a top 4A Iowa team in Lincoln (Council Bluffs), handing them their first loss. Hepburn with 23 will look to carry his team into an extremely difficult weekend, as they travel to #1 Pius X, and to #7 Omaha Westside, which will be a great test for a team likely primed for a deep postseason run.

6. Creighton Prep (9-3, *3) – A shocking blowout loss to Omaha Westside drops the Blue Jays three spots this week. Additionally to a close win against Omaha Benson by 5 points. This week Prep will have a chance to avenge their blowout, with a double Millard matchup at Millard South, and at home against #2Millard North.

7. Omaha Westside (7-3, *10) – The Warriors are surging right now lead by senior Jadin Booth putting up 20 ppg, and a 31 point effort in a major blowout win against #6 Creighton Prep. Westside hosts #5 Bellevue West as they look to continue a top their peak heading into a difficult stretch of schedule.

8. Papillion-La Vista South (8-4, *9) – A big win against cross town rival in #9 Papillion-La Vista by 11, and another blowout win against Omaha Burke. The Titans will continue their midseason with a few lighter weeks to look forward to.
This week: @ Omaha North, @ Lincoln Southwest
9. Papillion-La Vista (7-4, *7) – A tough loss to their rivals to the south, Papillion-La Vista bounced back in a major way against Lincoln North Star. Things do not get easier for the Monarchs with multiple top ten matchups in the coming weeks. They’ll need to lock down and play their best to get some major wins, coming with playoff implications.
This week: Vs #2 Millard North, @ Lincoln Southeast
10. Grand Island (7-4, *NR) – The Islanders making their debut in the top ten following a nice 4 game win streak including games in which the team scored 87, and 91 points in a 32 minute game. A decent schedule awaits Grand Island, with a few tough games that’ll serve as terrific matchups, an interesting, fun, and exciting team to keep an eye on.

Girls Class A Rankings:

1. Millard South (13-0,*1) – The Patriots continue are the dominant team in Class A after wins vs Millard West and Lewis Central. The Patriots continue to be lead by Chreighton commit Jayme Horan and South Dakota commit Maddie Krull who average over 10 ppg a piece. Last Week, Maddie Krull hurt her sprained her ankle and will likely be out for a week or two. But, Millard South is still our number 1 team this week but the gap is closing between them and #2 Pius X.
This Week: Vs Marian, @ Omaha Central
2. Lincoln Pius X (10-0, *2) – The Thunderbolts come in at number 2 in our rankings once again after after a close win over Lincoln Southwest and a dominant win over Lincoln Northeast. South Dakota State commit Alexis Markowski is dominating due to her height. The Bolts have continued to rely on their defense and will look to continue that to further close the gap between themselves and #1 Millard South.
This Week: Vs Bellevue West, Vs #8 Lincoln High
3. Lincoln East (10-1, *4) – The Spartans bounced back from their fist loss of the season in the competitive HAC Tournament to beat a solid Lincoln Northeast team and a top 5 #4 Fremont at their place. The Spartans were down by as many as 12 at the end of the 3rd quarter and ended up winning by 6. Lincoln East looks to keep the ball rolling this weekend with another competitive weekend.
This Week: @ Omaha Central, Vs #5 Omaha Westside
4. Fremont (11-3, *3) – The Tigers are coming off of a tough loss to #3 Lincoln East at home. They had a 12 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, until East stormed back to win by 6. On the plus side, Taylor McCabe had a solid game with 21 points, most of which came in the first half. They look to bounce back against Lincoln Southwest and Bellevue East.

5. Omaha Westside (12-3, *5) – The Warriors stayed at 5 this week in our rankings coming off wins against Omaha Marian, Elkhorn South, and Gretna. Westside continues to be lead by Senior Jasmine Mcginnis-Taylor who is averaging nearly 15 ppg and 10 rpg. The Warriors look to continue their success against Bellevue West and then on the road against #3 Lincoln East.
This Week: Vs Bellevue West, @ #3 Lincoln East
6. Papillion-LaVista (10-1, *6)- The Monarchs bounced back from their first loss of the season with wins over Papillion-LaVista South and Lincoln North Star. The Monarchs haven’t faced many competitive teams this season but they’ll have another opportunity for a statement win this weekend against #7 Millard North.
This Week: Vs #7 Millard North, @ Lincoln Southeast
7. Millard North (9-3, *7) – The Mustangs have played an extremely tough schedule but are 6 games above .500 right now. Millard North is coming off of a hard fought win over Gretna and Omaha Marian. They’ll face more stiff competition this weekend against #6 Papillion-LaVista and Omaha Bryan.

8.Lincoln High (8-3, *NA) – The Links re enter the rankings this week at 8 after wins over Omaha Benson and Grand Island. Nyayongah Gony continues to pace the Links in points and rebounds this season. Lincoln High has a tough game this weekend against #2 Pius X and then Omaha Bryan.

9. Omaha Northwest (9-4, *8) – The Huskies are 8 this week, after a close win over Bellevue East and Omaha Burke. This week they’re at Millard West and Omaha Bryan.

10. Lincoln Southwest (6-6 *NA) – The Silverhawks are back in our rankings this week after giving #2 Lincoln Pius X a scare and a large win over Grand Island. This week Lincoln Southwest plays #4 Fremont and then Papillion-LaVista South.
