Week 10 Oracle Power Rankings: Girls & Boys Class A Basketball

Boys Class A Rankings:

1. Millard North (15-2, *2) – Two 17 point blowout wins, and a streak of 4 wins, the Mustagns reclaim the top spot in this week’s rankings. Recently re-ranked 5 star Hunter Sallis, along with sophomore phenom Jasen Green lead scoring with 20 ppg on the weekend each. Millard North will have an easier weekend with two below .500 teams, before they face 4 currently ranked teams, along with #23 nationally ranked IMG Academy.
This week: @ Millard West, @ Lincoln Northeast
2. Bellevue West (14-2, *3) – Ever since the return of Chucky Hepburn, the Thunderbirds have been hot with 8 straight victories. Bellevue West has put themselves in a prime position for a lengthy postseason run, as they stand 1st in wildcard points. This will be tested in the coming weeks as the season closes out.
This week: @#10 Papillion-La Vista, Vs #8 Lincoln North Star
3. Omaha South (14-3, *1) – An 8 straight win streak snapped this week in an OT thriller, yet South shouldn’t be discouraged with one of the best defenses in the state averaging 10 spg. The Packers hadn’t a game closer than 12 points between their two losses 10 games apart. The close loss to #8 Omaha Westside will allow South to focus for a more than likely state berth.
This week: Vs #5 Omaha Central
4. Creighton Prep (13-5, *5) – An up and down year only continues for the Jays, with major wins against top teams, most recently Omaha Central. However, their victories seem to always be followed closely by losses, or narrow wins to lighter opponents, most recently Kearney. Creighton Prep seems to play to their competition, but if that holds true some big wins could be ahead for Prep.
This week: @ Omaha North, Vs Grand Island
5. Omaha Central (12-3, *4) – A difficult weekend for the Eagles resulted in two losses, to very respected top tier teams, but Central did get a nice fulfilling win versus Norfolk. They’ll square off against defending champs #3 Omaha South, and then hit a light road for their schedule, which will be crucial as they rank at a poor 7th in wildcard points.
This week: @ #3 Omaha South, @ Millard West
6. Papillion-La Vista South (12-5, *7) – Despite a very disappointing blowout loss a few weeks prior to now, Papillion-La Vista South has been surging, and playing at a high level. One game this weekend before a huge matchup with #1 Millard North, which could be a big win with playoff implications, as the Titians are 8th, the final spot to host a district.
This week: Vs Omaha Bryan, @ #1 Millard North
7. Omaha Westside (12-5, *8) – A big 6 point win in OT over #3 Omaha South jumped the Warriors into the 5th seed for districts. Along with a relatively quiet stretch of schedule upcoming Westside looks to be in a prime position for the postseason. Booth and Ngambi continue to impress as a spectacular duo, and will likely hold their own through the remainder of the season.
This week: Vs Lincoln Southwest, Vs Kearney
8. Lincoln Pius X (12-5, *6) – Five losses is the past 6 games, two OT losses, and the only win by 2 points to a sub-.500 Norfolk team, a major downfall for the former #1 team. This weekend lies another tough stretch as they’ll host #2 Class B Elkhorn, and quality wins are needed as their district stock has plummeted greatly.
This week: Vs Lincoln East, Vs #2 Elkhorn (Class B)
9. Lincoln North Star (12-5, *9) – After a rocky start to the new year, the Gators have picked up 3 straight wins, however not by a great margin, and by teams they wouldn’t be considered to be competitive with. Some tough matchups will be major opportunities for upgraded stock as North Star lies as a 2 seed as of now.
This week: Vs Lincoln Northeast, @ #2 Bellevue West
10. Papillion-La Vista (11-7, *NR) – Back in the top ten, and riding three straight wins, the Monarchs are on a tear. A final top ten matchup on the year for Papillion-La Vista against #2 Bellevue West will give a final chance to boost district stock. The Monarchs are looking like a strong 2 seed contender as of now.
This week: Vs #2 Bellevue West, @ Lincoln East

Girls Class A Rankings:

1. Millard South (20-0,*1) – The Patriots are still undefeated but their schedule is about to get much more difficult. Millard South is coming off of a nice 20 point win over #10 Millard North but the real tests will come in the closing weeks when the Patriots will play 4 of their next 6 games against ranked opponents. That’ll start this week on the road vs #5 Fremont.
This Week: @ #5 Fremont
2. Lincoln Pius X (16-0, *2) – The Thunderbolts are 2nd this week after a 12 point win at Elkhorn South and a win against Gretna. Pius X will have a marquee top 3 matchup this week against #3 Lincoln East in a rematch of the HAC Conference Semifinals in what is a match of contrasting styles. The Spartans like to run and press while the Thunderbolts would rather pound it down low with South Dakota State commit Alexis Markowski. This is just the start of a critical last few weeks of the Class A season.
This Week: Vs #3 Lincoln East,
3. Lincoln East (16-1, *3) – Lincoln East is coming off of a blowout win over Lincoln Southeast but an overtime scare at home against #9 Millard West. The Spartans were able to pull out a 2 point win over a very competitive Wildcat team. But the Spartans will have their most difficult week to date against two top six teams. First Lincoln East will try to avenge their only loss thus far at #2 Pius X and then they’ll host #6 Papillion LaVista on Saturday. This week will be a major test for the Spartans and it’s only the start of the great slate of games in the coming weeks for Class A.
This Week: @ #2 Lincoln Pius X, Vs #6 Papillion LaVista
4. Omaha Westside (17-4, *4) – The Warriors are at 4 again this week after a 1 point win against #9 Millard West. The Warriors have won 5 in a row and look to stretch that streak to 6 this week against #8 Lincoln Southwest.
This Week: Vs #8 Lincoln Southwest
5. Fremont (15-4, *5) – The Tigers are coming off of a blowout wins over Norfolk and Omaha North in which Fremont scored 68 and 81 points respectively. The Tigers will have major tests this weekend against #7 Lincoln High and #1 Millard South in what could be state previews.
This Week: Vs # 7 Lincoln High, Vs #1 Millard South
6. Papillion LaVista (16-2, *6)- The Monarchs are coming off of a scare from Gretna in a game where Papio LaVista only won by 1. Papillion LaVista has a tough weekend ahead with games against Bellevue West and #3 Lincoln East.
This Week: Vs Bellevue West, @ #3 Lincoln East
7. Lincoln High (12-4, *7) – The Links are 7th once again this week after double digit wins over Kearney and Burke. The Links will have a tough game against #5 Fremont this weekend.
This Week: @ #5 Fremont, Vs Bellevue East
8. Lincoln Southwest (13-6 *8) – The Silverhawks stay at 8 this week after wins over North Star and Omaha South. Southwest has a tough game against #4 Omaha Westside this week in what should be another tough game on the slate for Class A this week.
This Week: @ #4 Omaha Westside
9. Millard West (9-6, *10) – Although the Wildcats are coming off of a week where they went 0-2, they actually are moving up a spot on our rankings due to how they lost them. Millard West lost to #4 Omaha Westside by 1 before losing to #3 Lincoln East on the road in overtime by 2. The Wildcats are a team that you won’t want to face in state, let alone districts.
This Week: Vs #10 Millard North, Vs Omaha Central
10. Millard North (11-6, *9) – The defending state champions went 1-1 last week with a blowout win over Lincoln Southeast and a 20 point loss against #1 Millard South. This week, the Mustangs will have 2 more tough games against #9 Millard West and Lincoln Northeast.
