Have you ever wanted to join the student council here at Lincoln East? Are you either a ninth grader that didn’t go to a LPS middle school or a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader that didn’t go to East last year? If you answered yes to both of these questions you should apply for student council! The Lincoln East student council is accepting new members right now and they think you should apply!
The Lincoln East Student Council is an important group here at East. It is responsible for putting on many events here at our school. They put on Snatraps (the annual talent show), powderpuff, pep rallies, mario kart, spirit week, pink food truck night, singing valentines, and many more. They also help make sure the student body has a voice by helping with issues that the student body has brought to their attention. It is filled with a variety of people from the school that come together to help make East a better place.
To apply to be in the student council there are three steps. First, you need to fill out an application. The application has questions that let the council know who you are and why you want to be on the council.
Then, you need to do your teacher recommendations. For these teacher recommendations you will pick four of your current teachers to fill out a google form for you and tell the council how you are as a student.
Next, you will have an in-person interview with a panel of some of the student council members and the sponsor Ms. Diehl. After all of the steps are completed a group of student council members will review your application, teacher recommendations, and your interview and decide if you would be a good student council member.
Olivia O’Neill is a current student council member who is co-chairing new member drive this year. She has had a great experience being a part of this group and this is what she had to say about it, “Student Council has really helped me grow my leadership abilities and has given me the coolest opportunities. Being on council, I’ve made so many great friends and connections at East and I can’t imagine high school without it!”
Overall, being a part of the student council is a great way to help the East community in a positive way, make friends, and to grow your leadership skills. If you are interested in applying please join the student council new member google classroom with the code txo2egw.
