The Lincoln East Varsity football team beat North Platte on Friday, October 9th at Seacrest Field, 21-7.

The Spartans started the first half of the game strong. They executed plays to perfection and drove up and down the length of the field several times. At the end of the first half, the Spartans led 21-0 thanks to costly turnovers and penalties committed by the Bulldogs.

In the second half, East missed some assignments and didn’t push North Platte like they did in the first half. North Platte ended up getting a touchdown when Bulldog quarterback, Caleb Tonkinson, found a wide-open Jaylan Ruffin with less than 3 minutes left in the game.

“The game went very well in the first-half, we let up a bit in the second half and we should have kept our foot on the gas until the end of the game. “ Jacob Rien (Senior football player) said.

In the end, the Spartans held on for a 21-7 win.

I was happy we got the win, but the second half I wasn’t as pleased. We made some mistakes in the second half and kind of allowed them to stay in the game and made it a lot closer than it had to be,” said Varsity football Coach John Gingery.

Lincoln East improved to 5-2 on the season and will play Lincoln Northeast October 16th at Seacrest Field while the Bulldogs drop to 4-2 and will travel to Millard to play Millard West.
