September 11th, 2001 is a day everyone remembers. But none of East’s students lived through the day. With it being 20 years since the tragic event the question of will East keep the memories alive come up. For a short answer, yes. East will do this with an announcement of Friday September 10th and also teachers telling stories from the day.

With 9/11 being on Saturday this year, 2021, plans at East will look a little different from class to class. Some will work on September 10th and Monday, September 13th. Social studies teachers, Lance Kingery and Grant Peterson are some great examples of what teachers at East will be doing for the day.

“We will do something Friday, probably for most of all the hour,” social studies teacher Lance Kingery said.

“Monday I will be having a portion of the lesson,” social studies teacher Grant Peterson said.
With every teacher comes a different story from a different perspective of that day. Kingery was a teacher at the time of 9/11 and heard from his teacher’s assistance that a plane had hit one of the twin towers.

“Two things will always stand out to me; were when they shut down all air traffic and walking out of school and it was so eerily quiet,” Kingery said. “Even the birds weren’t making noise … there weren’t any cars moving around.” It’s a moment everyone who lived it remembers and will never forget.

But when looking back at all that’s happened in the past like 9/11 and pearl harbor, there are two big takeaways where the heros and the unity of this nation. The people who keep going back to save lives. Even though the war ends on August 30th, 2021 we will always remember the people who sacrificed their lives to save others.
