Due to a lucky culmination of several large events, entertainment in Lincoln Nebraska was at an all-time high the week of August 24th through August 30th. On Saturday and Sunday, Lincoln Airpark hosted the Blue Angels at the Guardians of Freedom Airshow. On Tuesday, country singer Zach Bryan performed at Pinnacle Bank Arena. On Wednesday, Volleyball Day in Nebraska broke a world record, becoming the highest attended women’s sports event in history.

More than 340,000 people, a crowd nearly 16% greater than Lincoln’s population, attended the Blue Angels free airshow, making it the largest spectator event in Lincoln history.

“One of the cool things about being right there at the site is there’s an announcer who does narrate the different tricks that they are doing, so I definitely learned a little about the maneuvers,” Rebecca McConnell said after attending the airshow.

But the Airshow wasn’t the only record-breaking attendance event in Lincoln. UNL takes great pride in their volleyball team, and so do the fans. For 306 consecutive regular season matches, Nebraska volleyball has sold out at Bob Devaney and by playing at Memorial Stadium and allowing spectators to view the event on field, the 92,003 fans at the event broke not only Memorial Stadium’s sports attendance record, but a world record as well, for largest attended women’s sporting event.

“It was really cool and empowering to see these women break the world record,” sophomore Elle Cullan said. “I think it’s a base level of what should be happening in women’s sports.”

Large crowds weren’t only present at Memorial Stadium; just a day before, country singer Zach Bryan played to a sold out stadium at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Few people know that Bryan used to call Omaha his home, making this concert a homecoming event for the artist, and not only was the performance a mere four days after the release of Bryan’s self-titled album, it was also the day of the ten- year anniversary of the opening of Pinnacle Bank.

While many people were thrilled to have an eventful and entertaining week in Lincoln, it will certainly not be the last, and for those looking to become more involved in Lincoln’s entertainment there are many concerts at Pinnacle Bank Arena, football games at Memorial Stadium, and volleyball games at Bob Devaney to look forward to in the near future.
