A ghost has haunted the girls swim team locker room at Lincoln East High School for decades. Known as “Tiffany” among the members of the swim team, the story goes that, years ago, Tiffany slipped, fell, and died in the locker room shower, and now her restless spirit haunts the place of her untimely demise.

Tiffany has been blamed for heavy breathing being in empty locker rooms, showers and lights turning on and off, lockers slamming, and has even been known to appear in the mirrors of the room on rare occasions.

Senior swim team member, Kalen Cullan, a student who claims to have encountered the spirit, recounted her encounter with Tiffany in an interview:

“My freshman year I went into the locker room and I heard the shower on. Which was weird. So I walk further into the locker room where there’s no shower on and as I’m walking out the lights flicker. I think ‘this is crazy, this isn’t real.’ So I walk back out and go back to the weight room and tell my partner on the rack about the flickering lights and the shower and she says that’s happened to her too. So when all the girls went back into the locker room, I told them what happened, and they said ‘oh yeah that’s just the ghost.’”

One theory used to explain the paranormal activities is that the ghost could be linked to an event that happened long before the school was built in 1967, and that Tiffany is tied to the land. Another theory points out that the East High building itself is built on a Ley line: a coordinate line drawn to connect locations that hold some kind of power, such as churches and ancient monuments, forming a “power grid” where strange things have been known to occur.

“The lack of windows in many areas and the small places that serve as passageways to the outside world may make the architecture of Lincoln’s east high school seem dated but its construction in the late 1960s is relatively recent compared to, say, the ancient catacomb-like halls of Lincoln high,” Alan Boye author of A Guide to the Ghosts of Lincoln wrote. “It is hard to imagine what might cause such a recent place to be haunted.”

However, due to lack of evidence, no known obituary, nor any memoriams for “Tiffany” in the East High School yearbooks, there is currently no evidence to confirm or deny the existence of the legend of Tiffany, the ghost of the girls swim team locker room, and, for now, she will remain just that: a legend.
