Spartan varsity boys tennis defeats Lincoln North Star

Sophomore Mason Garcia hits a serve at the North Star vs East dual at Woods Tennis Center. Mason Garcia won his 5 Singles match 8-5 towards the beginning of the dual.

The Spartan boys tennis team swept the competition during their dual against Lincoln North Star at Woods Tennis Center. The team left the September 3rd dual with wins in every match they played.
From the moment they stepped onto the courts, the East High School Boys Varsity Tennis team was absolutely unstoppable. They won match after match after match. Proud varsity coach Chris Stock said during the dual, “Today is going really good, I mean it’s nice when you win them all and so far we’ve won them all”.
The head tennis coach is very optimistic about how the team will be throughout the rest of the season and says, “I think they’re meshing well with each other and they’re getting better as the weeks go by so that’s all you can ask for”.
After coming off the court from his 6 singles match, where the final score was 8-4, Joshua Stock was the definition of a winner. Although he admitted that he was worried “a bit during the middle. [The score was] 5-4, pretty close, and then I broke a serve and it was game over from there.”
Another team member, junior Gabe Whiston, and his doubles partner, senior Kyle Givens, smashed the competition in their 1 doubles match, coming off the court with a final score of 8-2. Whiston said about the match, “I think there’s some things we could correct, for sure, but not the hardest team we’ll play but definitely very good.”
If the east boys keep up the skill level they showed at their North Star dual, they are going to have a very successful season. It will be exciting to see how they do over the course of the season.
