Red Bull has 16 total flavors ranging from their newest winter edition, iced vanilla berry, to classics like the tropical version and watermelon. Choosing from all the options can be quite difficult especially if someone doesn’t know where to start, but a redbull connoisseur is here to help. I will be providing a thoughtful rating of my top three flavors and some honorable mentions as a guide to other caffeine addicts who are looking to branch out.
If I know anything about high school students, especially those at Lincoln East, it’s that they are addicted to caffeine. All through the halls there are students carrying various cans of energy boosting beverages in attempts to get through the school day without an afternoon nap. I am one of those students and my drink of choice has always been Red Bull. I drink at least five a week, along with the occasional Mountain Dew Kickstart, so it’s safe to say that I am an expert on energy drinks.
Each drink will be rated on a scale of 1-5 for specificity based on the criteria of availability, taste, mouthfeel, and refreshingness.
Coconut Berry
The third best flavor in my opinion is coconut berry. This one is very refreshing but doesn’t taste too overbearing with coconut. It’s definitely a good summer drink with balanced flavors. The mouthfeel is smooth and it’s usually available everywhere so I would rate this a ⅘. If my top two flavors aren’t available, then this is the one I’m grabbing.
Tropical
Number two, Tropical. This one is my fallback when my favorite flavor isn’t available because it’s usually always carried in stores. This flavor is very refreshing and has hints of pineapple, which gives a sense of tanginess. The mouthfeel is good and doesn’t taste overly sweet so it’s a good choice for a morning beverage. Overall, it’s really solid and stands at a 4.5/5, half a point off since it leaves me wanting and wishing for more, which the number one flavor is able to provide.
Peach
Finally, the number one, the best of the best: the peach-nectarine Red Bull. When I tell you that I got full body chills the first time I cracked one of these bad boys open, you better believe it. As soon as it hits your tongue, you’re overcome with the most refreshing and tasty peach flavor you can find in a drink. It’s smooth and light and won’t leave a weird feeling in your mouth like the watermelon flavor.
“After tasting the peach, tropical and coconut berry my favorite had to be the peach because it is really refreshing,” East highschool sophomore Mattie Peavy said.
It is simply perfection, but all roses have their thorns. Sadly, you can’t find it at some Walgreen’s and gas stations, but CVS does usually carry it. Overall, it’s definitely a 5/5. A half of a point could be taken off for availability, but it’s not the red bull’s fault so I chose not to. Final thoughts are that if someone said they bought me a couple peach-nectarine red bull’s I would get down on one knee, hand over my left kidney, my first born child, whatever they wanted; that’s how good it is.
“I don’t usually have energy drinks but the peach Red Bull is really good and I would definitely drink one of them in the morning if I was tired,” East highschool sophomore Addie Odle said.
My top three aside, I do have some other honorable mentions. The newest winter flavor, iced vanilla berry, is really good. Lots of people have positive opinions of it even if it’s not my favorite. Juneberry, Caruba elder-flower, and strawberry apricot are some of my top flavors as well and are really solid options.
I hope that next time someone is standing in front of a big cooler at a gas station or grocery store struggling to choose a redbull, they think back to this article and go for the peach.
