A project that has been in the works for some time, the new broadcasting room, is beginning construction during the third quarter of the 2025-2026 school year. The idea for this project belongs to Mrs. Lott, our school librarian, who decided East should adapt our card catalog room after noticing schools in Lincoln, like Northeast, Northwest, and Standing Bear building their own broadcasting rooms. The new area will allow for more inventive classwork, like podcasting and video production.
“[The card catalog room] just hasn’t really outfitted for any true purpose. We’ve done a conference room, it was a prayer room at one point in time. It has been a storage room,” said librarian Mrs. Abby Lott. “I think it’s just good for creatives to have a space to create. If we’re trying to promote original thought, I think it’s overall important to have technology that’s up with the times.”
The broadcasting room is already being used by certain classes to facilitate interesting assignments. The Criminal Justice class has used the room to produce podcasts on a crime they’ve researched.
“There are four sets of headphones and microphones to use, so up to four people can be recording [in] it for the podcast, and there’s a soundboard,” said senior Jirsa Fujan. “For a lot of my middle school and high school duration, it’s been a lot of recording off your computer microphone for WeVideo and the microphones and headphones in that room definitely improved everything about our recordings.”
Once the room is built, students will be able to use it for their own podcasting and videography projects. The broadcasting will be an excellent addition to East for classes and creatives alike.

I love the topic and enjoy the writing style. I can’t wait to see how the broadcasting room will continue to evolve. I am excited to read more!
