Youth Revival is a club offered at East dedicated to spreading God’s love throughout the school and helping students grow in their faith. They meet every Wednesday at seven A.M. in room 221, where they hold a small bible study. Youth Revival also gives students the opportunity to connect with others that share the same beliefs as them.
This year’s club officers consist of juniors Lily Abele and Olivia Muffler, and senior Andrew Hill. The club’s sponsor is Julia Miller, a Spanish teacher at East High School. Miller is passionate about spreading the word of God, and is grateful for the community that the club has built. When offered the sponsor position, she didn’t hesitate to say yes.
“I have sponsored Youth Revival for many years and I don’t think it was even a difficult decision,” Miller said. “When it was offered to me, I was like for sure, I would definitely want to do this because I want to glorify God in my job and what I’m able to do here at school.”

Every week the club begins by students going around and introducing themselves by saying their name, grade, and answering a fun, get to know you question. The boys and girls then split up into their bible study groups, where they read a short scripture and answer reflection questions about it. These group discussions allow students to freely express their beliefs in school, which is otherwise difficult considering religion isn’t commonly discussed in classrooms. Knowing who shares the same beliefs can be motivating and reassuring for students; it provides students with support to continue their spiritual journey and know that they aren’t alone.
“It’s cool to see who else has the same beliefs and be able to be comforted and encouraged by other people that have your same perspective,” Miller added. “I think that’s a great thing to see at school because it’s not something that’s talked about at school very often.”
This is the first year that Youth Revival is not affiliated with Mercy City, the church that used to fund the club. Although it is unknown why they decided to stop funding Youth Revival, the club’s values and goals have not changed. They are still dedicated to spreading God’s word and glorifying him in all that they do. They hope to continue growing in members, and suggest the club to anyone wanting to build a connection with God.
“I would absolutely recommend it to anybody,” Rowan Mackrill, a sophomore at East High School, said. “Especially to those that want to grow in their faith, and to those who want to find faith but they struggle, and for people who just want somewhere to be.”
Youth Revival is a great way for students to connect with their faith and strengthen their relationship with God. It also acts as a safe space for anyone looking to join a new community. If interested, go to room 221 on Wednesday morning.
