Over the years, the Oracle has changed hands in terms of advisors and staff. Traditionally, the seniors leave and our juniors rise up and begin their roles as editors. This year is a bit different: we’re starting off with three editors who are juniors. The Oracle has added six new staff members this year and we’ve been working hard this year to bring you new things, such as online broadcasting of our news (coming soon @ lehsoracle.com) and more. Our website used to feature some staff bios, but since we’ve updated it (you should check it out!) we will need to rewrite these. Here we introduce to you some of our new and older staff — a bit about them and why they decided to join.

Morgan Valley is a junior and our news editor. Outside of our class, she is an active member of HOSA and a leader in East’s Eco Club. She promotes a cleaner environment for all the people and animals that live here on earth. Morgan also spends countless hours throughout the week working on speech and debate. She also works at Hy-Vee where she is occasionally put in the deli and cries because she’s a vegan. Morgan enjoys painting, being artistic in general, and hanging out with her friends. She likes The Oracle because she can share about the issues she cares about.

Colby Lyon is a new staff writer this year! A junior, he has been really excited to step out from what was “comfortable” for him and begin a new chapter his third year of high school. He believes it is an honor to share his opinions with a wide range of people, and listen to those others as well. He’s thrilled from the healthy relationships he has built in this class. When asked to join the newspaper staff, he didn’t think anything of it. Now, he understands how important it is. To him, sharing news isn’t just a job. It’s a lifeblood. After high school, Colby wants to go pre-med and then work with eyes. “Eyes describe who a person are.” All in all, he wants to help people see that they are living the best life possible.

Chynna Burgess is our voices editor, she’s a senior. She decided to be a part of The Oracle because she loves writing and she believes it’s something she really excels at. She also enjoys sharing her opinion and others, which is why she loves being the voices editor. She loves books, specifically ones that have been passed down from one person to another. While Chynna isn’t sure which school she wants to go to, there’s no doubt that she wants to major in journalism or theatre. In fact, she spends most of her time involved in her school’s productions on the technical side of things.

Gage Pohlmeier is a new staff writer this year. A senior, he joined the Oracle to get more experience writing. After high school, he wants to study either sports media or criminal justice. Being 6 1/2 feet tall, it’s only natural he is on the East varsity boy’s basketball team. He is also on the drumline. Outside of Spartan nation, he works at Lazlo’s as a host. Gage is a huge fan of the Tennessee Titans, the Lakers, and Nebraska. He can also reference parts of the Office for you.
